Science activities for kids: Water Filtration System at your home

In order to create beautiful memories for our children and ensure their emotional balance, we organize various fun games and activities for them, but in order to raise people with critical thinking and solution-finding skills, I try to organize as many scientific activities as possible.
Scientific experiments, or more correctly STEM, have an extremely important role, even more so in the advanced technological age in which we live.
What are scientific activities - STEM?
STEM activities focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics – which helps develop critical thinking and stimulate curiosity. Exposing your child to these activities from an early age will give him great advantages in adult life. Through these activities, children learn to think analytically, find solutions to problems, think creatively and be innovative.
But besides being practical and educational, they're also fun!
My son has been a fan of science experiments since he was 5 years old, when I started to organize them more insistently, and now, at 9 years old, he is also studying robotics, being convinced that IT will be his future field.
But recently, daughter (almost 5 years old) also started showing interest in science activities and was extremely eager to test the new 4M brand science kits that we received for testing from Carousel .
Scientific activity: Water Filtration System
The children couldn't wait to start this experiment, especially the little one, even if she still didn't understand the essence of this activity.
He was going to discover how to filter water in a simple, easy and fun way, using some elements from nature.
It only took me 15-20 minutes to prepare all the elements to create the water purification system, so the parent's help is needed. But it was fun for me too and I really enjoyed doing an activity together.
The kit includes some necessary parts, carbon packs, sand, stones and a paper filter. It is very easy to assemble by following the instruction manual. In addition, you need a glass, oil and a little soil (I used the one for plants).
At this stage children are eager to participate – the adult just needs to guide them.
We thoroughly washed the materials that will filter the water and, at the same time, we prepared dirty water that will become the object of the experiment: we will see how the water mixed with soil and oil will be cleaned by passing through the filters.
Adelina was delighted that it was her turn to be involved in the experiment.
Then we started the water filtration process right at our house! How simple and how curious!
Obviously, I have to tell them how the stones stop waste and impurities, then pass through sand which stops oil and other impurities, then pass through carbon which purifies the water. But the final step is the filter paper itself.
The children kept wondering how it was possible for the water to flow completely clean!
The question I expected from them also appeared: "is this water drinkable?". To which I explained that it still needs to be disinfected to be consumed. But anyway, it was incredible how clean the water was.
You don't need a lot of space to do this experiment, and it's not a dirty activity either: just be careful when opening the bags of material.
That's what science activities are all about: children learn about phenomena and processes in nature in a practical way - and the impact is much greater than when they learn only from books.
Scientific set "Water Purification" - 4M
This set contains three other experiments: obtaining distilled water by condensation (you only need ice cubes and hot water), demonstrating the water cycle on Earth (you also need a little soil, a small plant and sun), and pasteurization solar. All the components needed to run the experiments are included in the set. Only adult supervision and involvement is needed.
These activities are not just for boys; I really encourage you to involve little girls in scientific activities. My daughter is only 4 years old and she was fascinated by this experiment.
About the mission of the 4M brand
4M is a company focused on educational science games for children, through which they seek to promote imagination, creativity, skill and innovation in a fun way. These games, which appear to be sophisticated, stimulate the executive function of the brain, which gives rise to people with advanced cognitive development, analytical and who can find solutions to problems. These science activities help children to better understand scientific theory and phenomena, which helps them achieve better academic results.
I am convinced that I have aroused your curiosity, even you, the adults - this is the mission of the 4M brand.
