Tarō GOMI (b. 1945, Tokyo) is a Japanese author with an impressive career: he has published more than 400 illustrated books, of which 50 titles have been translated worldwide. He is also well known in Japan for the children's songs and poems he has composed for various films and television shows. Like many great artists, Tarō Gomi manages to deliver a lot using very little. It is often inspired by ordinary things that children encounter in their world. His illustrations rely heavily on suggestion, on challenging the imagination and overcoming clichés, and the texts, sometimes real poems, rely on simplicity and emotion. He was rewarded in 1989 with the award for illustration at the Bologna Children's Book Fair.
