Aston's Stones by Lotta Geffenblad

"The Stones of Aston" (Astons Stenar) , published in 2005, was immediately appreciated for the poetry of the text and the magic of the illustrations that tell together, with humor and tenderness, about how childhood should be: free, unhindered, full of love.

It's a gloomy late autumn evening. The cold creeps slowly through the shadows. Footsteps are heard from the alley. I cry! I cry! Look at Aston too. He is with his mother, who is carrying some heavy nets. Cheese, spinach and fish from the market. Suddenly, Aston stops. He spotted something. A rough, wet, shiny stone. Aston took off his glove and touched it with his paw. It's so cold! Poor thing…

Lotta Geffenblad (b. 1962), Swedish illustrator and author of children's books, was inspired by "Aston's Stones" from the traditional Japanese art of woodblock printing.
